Test and Inspection

 

An electrical Test and Inspection, also known as a Periodic Inspection are carried out through the deterioration of electrical installations.

 

Regular Test and Inspections check the condition of the installation to ensure it is satisafactory and in line with the current electrical legislations and once completed you are issued with an Electrical Condition Report. (EICR)

 

Periodic Inspections are carried out to identify the following:

 

 

  • Potential fire hazards or electrical shock risks.
  • Overloaded circuits or equpment.
  • Highlight lack of any bonding or earthing.
  • Defective electrical work.
  • Check the safety of any fixed electrical equpment and wiring.

 

 

A schedule of circuits is also provided.

 

 

Test and Inspectiosn should be Inspected and Tested for the following time periods:

 

Swimming Pool - Yearly

Caravan - Every 3 Years

Rented home - Every 5 Years

for an owner-occupied home - Every 10 Years

Additionaly a periodic Inspection should be carried out when a property is being prepared for re-letting and before selling or buying a previously occupied propery

 

 

An official NICEIC registered electrician should be employed to carry out your Periodic Inspection and to check the condition of electrics to the standard of saftey for electrical installation. (IEE Wiring Regulations standard)

 

They will check the condition of the electrics against the UK standard for the safety of electrical installations, BS 7671 – Requirements for Electrical Installations (IEE Wiring Regulations).

 

 

The following relevant circumstances and checks are taken into account during a Test and Inspection:

 

Earthing and bonding adequacy

Switchgear and controlgear suitability (eg: cast-iron switche,s old fusebox with a wooden back or both will need to be replaced)

Light fittings, switches and socket serviceability (round light switches, older round-pin sockets, fabric coated cables and skirting board mounted black switches are items that may need replacing)

The condition and type of wiring system (eg:black rubber coated cables from the 1960's are replaced with longer lasting pvc insulation)

Correct protection (RCD) for sockets that supply outdoor portable electric equipment.

Adequate Precence of identification notices.

Deterioration adn extent of any wear and tear

Changes to the use of premises leading to unsafe conditions.

A competent electrical company will be able to issue an Electrical Installation Condition Report.

This report will detail observed deterioration, damage, dangerous conditions,defects and any non-compliances with the present-day safety standard that may give rise to danger.

 

If any dangerous or potential danger is found in the report, the electrical installation will be declared "unsatisfactory" and remedial action will be required to extract all risks to those in the premises
